Delayed Blog is Delayed: Candy Depew.

Last Tuesday I had the privilege of listening to Ms Candy Depew for an hour of my life. She seemed like a pretty chill and cool woman, but her voice and laugh gave me the willies after a total of 17 minutes. Her vinyls were pretty cool. I like the fact that she pretty much sticks to the same symbolism in her art. Very one-trick-pony type feel, even though she is very diverse in her arts. I liked that. I sorta want to buy some of those little trinkets of hers. I wish she had brought some. Also, you can buy those MoneyMakers panties on her site, which amused me.

Philadelphia Adventures

On Labor Day 2010 I went on a magical adventure of dirt and trash through Philadelphia with my parents. We ventured out early in the morning to embark on a seven hour mission, resulting in 238 pictures and an empty gas tank. We started our day by roaming up and down Kelly Drive. Taking pictures of rowers, drawing picnickers, proceeding to freak out picnickers who realized I was drawing them. From there we headed to the art museum, were I snapped images of tourists running up the steps and then turned around to snap one of city hall down the Avenue of Flags. We then headed to City Hall and south on Broad to the Sports Complexes, just in time to be stopped by Phillies traffic. Taking a loop back north, we stopped at Ikea, where I had a view of the SS United States at port. After sketching and taking a few more photos, we headed to Geno's and Pat's, where I got a Geno's pork sandwich. (not a big cheesesteak fan) Then we passes through Old City before hitting the slums. We then found ourselves in the Northeast, where we stopped at the Linden Boat Ramp. We sat on the rocks before taking Route 13 back into Bensalem, where we stopped to get Rita's.

Observation: End of Week 2

I have been a Tyler student for two weeks now.  It's been interesting, for sure.  And yet, more or less what I expected.  Lots of hipsters and indie kids.  A few Scenes.  Coffee cups in the hands of everybody.  Chill professors.  Macs everywhere.

Just as I had expected.

I do find it amusing, though.  Just how independent Tyler seems to be from the rest of Temple even though it is on Main Campus.  It's like it's own bubble.  Tyler is the only building where people skateboard down the hallway, and the only place where you have to worry about getting hit by a bike while inside.  It has it's own cafe with hip food, like sushi and hummus and Naked juice and those weird boxes of Indian food.  It's the only building that basically takes a day off from teaching.

It's interesting really.  I am no longer phased by people just plopping down in the middle of the hallway and pulling out their laptop, or people stapling random things to walls.  I think I'm getting used to the art school-i-ness of it all.  Which is good, I guess.
